Of doing justice and RIGHTEOUSNESS
Micah 6:8 says, "He has told you, O man, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
Deut. 10:18 reminds us that God “executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing.”
Unsurprisingly then, he expects the same from his people.
Deut. 24:17 says, “You shall not pervert justice due to the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow.
And all God’s people shall say Amen.”
That why Zech. 7:9-10 says, “Thus says the LORD of hosts, render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another,
do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.”
In the O.T he expected the Kings of Israel to do the same
I kings 10:9 reminds King Solomon that God had “made you king over them, that you may execute justice and righteousness.”
So the biblical witness is that when we execute justice and righteousness the result will be shalom.
A biblical view of human flourishing.
But ultimately, another King would come and He would do justice and righteousness and bring peace to his Kingdom
In the words of Isaiah 9:7, “Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.”
As Isaiah 42:1-4 says, "Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights;
I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations... he will faithfully bring forth justice.
He will not grow faint or be discouraged till he has established justice in the earth"
